Surf CityCAPITOL RECORDS DIGITAL REISSUE

1963 — Jan & Dean's fourth album for Liberty Records.

Drag City reached the Top 20 (Cash Box) and Top 30 on the Billboard album charts, featuring one major hit single, eight original compositions (co-written by Berry), and a strong set of hot rod-themed album cuts.

This was Jan & Dean's first fully-realized concept album, and the first to present an overt comedic angle. It was also the first album to feature a majority of material co-written by Berry.

HIT SINGLE: Drag City

Arranged and Produced by Jan Berry for Screen Gems, Inc.

DIGITAL LINER NOTES: Jan & Dean take the hot-rod (schlock rod) sound by storm, and the Berry-Wilson-Christian (and Kornfeld) creative relationship flourishes. Backing vocalists The Matadors (Tony Minichiello, Vic Diaz, and Manuel Sanchez) continue to shine. Studio insight.
